This performing arts outreach program was carried out at Datong Secondary School in Manshi Die, Northern Thailand, over a two-week period. Our five-member team took on multiple roles—including teaching, administration, documentation, and exhibition-making—and worked from two core principles: “art as a language” and “the body as a channel.” Guided by these ideas, we led local students through cross-media creation and performance.
The school is an overseas Chinese school located in a border region. Its students come from diverse cultural backgrounds: some are descendants of ethnic Chinese families, some are refugees who fled war in Myanmar, and some still have no formally recognized nationality to this day. Their identities are both mobile and ambiguous—they may speak fluent Chinese, yet not necessarily possess citizenship that is officially acknowledged.
In response, we designed the curriculum as a journey of self-exploration and developing expressive capacity, hoping that through artistic creation, students could re-understand the relationship between themselves and the world around them.
